A Street in the center of Semba

'Sankyubashi-suji' is a road running north to south through the town of Semba in Osaka, which served as the economic hub of Osaka from the early modern period until after the war. It stretches approximately 2 kilometers. The name originates from 'Sankyubashi bridge,' a bridge that once spanned the Nagahori River. The bridge was removed in 1962 (Showa 37) when the Nagahori River was reclaimed, but its name remains at the intersection.

Sankyubashi-suji is located precisely between the two main roads, Midō-suji and Sakai-suji, and is sometimes referred to as 'the backbone of Semba'.

An Easy-to-Walk, gas-lit Promenade

In the northern section of Sankyubashi-suji, from Tosabori-dōri to Chuō-ōdōri, electric cables have been buried underground and sidewalks widened, transforming it into an inviting, easy-to-walk promenade. In summer, the rows of Japanese bead trees flourish with lush greenery, while at night, gas lamps cast a soft, faint glow.
The southern section, from Chuō-ōdōri to Nagahori-dōri, lies near Osaka's vibrant 'Minami' district, including Shinsaibashi, and buzzes with energy, attracting mainly younger crowds.
